Where does SJSU's money come from?

  • Full Time Equivalent (FTE)

    "Full-time equivalent" means the number of students taking 12 or more units, including part-time students combined to equla the equivalent of one part-time student.

  • State University Fees (undergrad)

    This is the amount of fees required per academic year per resident undergraduate student.

    Technically, residents do not pay "tuition". In the CSU, money paid by students are called "fees".

  • Campus-based fees

    This represents all other income received by the University, and includes class fees, parking, AS fees, graduation fees, and other miscellaneous fees.

  • State Appropriations

    The amount of money received by SJSU from the California government.

    This figure is most impacted by yearly state budget negotiations.

  • Total revenue

    This figure represents the total amount collected from various fees by the University, including undergrad, graduate, out-of-state and international students, along with all campus-based fees. This figure represents all of the money SJSU has to spend outside of state appropriations.

  • Operating Fund

    This figure represents all of the money SJSU has to spend in an academic year.
